Master's Program - Application Materials

 

We are pleased that you are interested in an application packet for the Criminology and Criminal Justice graduate program. Our program is generally regarded as among the finest in the nation. We encourage you to take a very close look at what we have to offer. We pride ourselves on being a challenging and rigorous program at the forefront of the field. In addition to our emphasis on academic quality, we provide students with a positive and supportive learning environment.

You will need to submit the following items:

  1. Graduate School on-line application (http://www.gradschool.siuc.edu/applygrad.htm)
  2. Departmental Application
  3. Personal Statement
  4. 3 Letters of Recommendation. At least two of these three letters should come from faculty members who have taught you in the classroom. PDF Version
  5. Official Transcripts (Please request that the registrar of each college or university you have attended send an OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT or your recored DIRECTLY to the Department for Criminology and Criminal Justice.  Unofficial or personal transcripts are not acceptable.)
  6. GRE scores (Given only on computer in the U.S.  Local students may take this exam at the Prometric Test Center in Carterville, IL.  Call 618-985-4727 to make an appointment.)
  7. Application Fee ($50.00-check or money order made payable to Southern Illinois University Carbondale, or credit card when you submit Graduate School on-line application)
  8. TOEFL scores (International students only)
  9. Financial Statement and affidavit (print both pages) (International student only)

Once the department receives the necessary materials, the Graduate Affairs Committee will make a decision on your admission to the program, contingent upon your admission to the Graduate School. No student can be fully admitted to the program without full admission to the Graduate School.

An application for an assistantship is included as part of the departmental application form. In order to receive full consideration for Graduate Assistant funding, all materials must be on file by February 28th.  Applications for Graduate School fellowships must be requested from this department and returned by January 15th in order to be considered for the following Fall semester. These fellowships are awarded competitively by the Graduate School from nominations made by this department.
